Course Description

The Complete Foundation Photography Course is designed for beginners who want to build practical photography skills from the ground up.

With a strong focus on hands-on learning, you will learn the essential techniques needed to confidently use your camera, work with studio and location lighting, and develop both digital and analogue photography skills.

Through practical sessions and guided projects, you will build a solid technical foundation and gain the confidence to start creating your own photographic work.

WHAT YOU'LL GAIN

  • Learn the essential technical skills needed to understand and control your camera and create well-exposed, considered images.

    You will develop a practical understanding of:

    • Camera settings and controls

    • Exposure

    • Composition

    • Digital photography workflow

    • Basic photographic techniques

  • Photography is best learned by doing.

    You will practise your skills through hands-on shoots, studio sessions and location-based photography, allowing you to apply what you learn in real photographic situations.

  • Gain an introduction to both digital and analogue photography.

    You will learn the fundamentals of:

    • Digital photography

    • Film photography

    • Analogue film processing

    • Contact printing

    • Basic darkroom techniques

  • Learn how to work with lighting in both studio and location environments.

    You will be introduced to:

    • Studio lighting equipment

    • Basic lighting techniques

    • Interior lighting

    • Outdoor / location lighting

    • Working with light to shape your images

  • Learn with support from professional tutors through practical guidance, questions and feedback on your work.

    After completing a studio induction and coordinating with your tutor, you may also use our professional studio for non-commercial photography projects, subject to availability.

  • By the end of the course, you will have developed a strong foundation in photography and the confidence to continue developing your skills.

    The course provides an ideal starting point for students who want to progress into professional photography, advanced analogue photography, fashion, portraiture, studio photography or other specialist areas.
