Course Overview
Advance your analogue photography skills with this Level 2 film photography course, designed for photographers moving from 35mm to medium format (120) and large format (4x5). This hands-on course covers studio and location shooting, helping you develop a more intentional approach to film photography.
Learn to operate medium and large format cameras, understand differences in depth, detail, and tonal range, and apply studio lighting techniques for analogue workflows. Gain experience in black and white film development and traditional darkroom printing, including contact sheets and enlargements, plus an introduction to large format camera movements for creative control.

5 Days Evening Schedule

Overview of 120 and 4x5 systems, camera handling, and workflow differences from 35mm.

Understanding depth, detail, tonality, and how larger formats change your visual approach.

Hands-on introduction to studio lighting techniques tailored for analogue workflows.

Developing roll film and sheet film, understanding chemistry and consistent results.

Create contact sheets, test strips, and high-quality enlargements using traditional darkroom printing methods.
2 Days Intensive Schedule

Medium format and large format camera operation, composition techniques, and studio lighting setup with practical shooting exercises.

Black & white film development (roll + sheet film), followed by darkroom printing, including contact sheets, test strips, and final enlargements.
Equipment & Materials Required
All essential analogue photography equipment is provided during the course, including medium format (120) and large format (4x5) cameras, studio lighting, and darkroom facilities.
Participants are welcome to bring their own film cameras if they wish, but this is not required. If you choose to shoot additional work outside the course, you may wish to bring or purchase your own black & white 120 or sheet film.
All film chemistry and darkroom paper used during the course is provided. Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for studio and darkroom environments, and be prepared for hands-on practical work.
